Slot-Car Racing / Scalextric Club, Cambridge Street. 1960s.

As a child in the 1960s I had a Scalextric slot-car racing track at home and tinkered with a few racing car models. I recall taking my cars on a few occasions to a track that had been set up in a building accessed off Cambridge Street, opposite Cole Brothers (as it was then, later John Lewis). I think it was on the first floor and one entered via an alley that led off Cambridge Street. I do not recall who set it up, how long it ran for or anything much else about it other than that I was not a good slot-car driver as my cars kept coming off the track. (I had a similar experience with a proper car later in life shortly after my father died, but that's another story).

Does anyone else recall this slot-car racing club or know anything else about it?

There was a building on the left side of Cambridge Street which was an annexe to Coles Brothers/ John Lewis. I think at one time this was the toy department. Might the club have been above this?

No. It was not part of Cole Bros.
