Ponytail Posted November 16, 2022 Author Share Posted November 16, 2022 Grimesthorpe Prize Brass Band Bandsman, Cornet Player, William (Will) Arthur Smith 1900 - 1906 Born Stafford 1878 Self portrait, in Bandsman Uniform and his Cornet The cost of Bb Cornet in 1899 Played the organ at Tixall Church and also taught piano. A member of the Stafford Temperance Brass Band before coming to Sheffield for work at Vickers Ltd. Lodged with the Bates family who were involved with the Grimesthorpe Prize Brass Band. His old Band sent him a gift and wished him well in Sheffield Played at Crystal Palace Pass for him to join his Band to play during the Royal Visit Newpaper Cutting no date, winning medal for best Cornet solo at Jump He gave up playing in the Band on his engagement to Annie Land.
