Rudyard Kipling's "IF" was my dad's favourite poem, it hung in his home and now it hangs in mine. The words, he often quoted at the appropriate moments. Grandma's love of "Thoughts for the Day" and Poetry, I'm sure she would have thought the words very apt as she was leaving the Scrapbook to him.

Grandma, we weren't able to spend much time together but I've discovered more about you through reading the Scrapbook. You sat by my bedside when I was ill with Measles (Morbilli), giving me a plastic bear that walked down the homemade slope to amuse me, still have the bear.

IMG_20221113_005802.thumb.jpg.34203b44c71a86f93cda1c89ecd4a1e8.jpgYou tried to teach me to stand up to bullies, taught me to play cards and along with Grandad you gave me my love of gardening and growing vegetables. I'll never forget you telling me to go down the bottom of the garden and look between the 2 stones for the dandelion leaves you'd blanched to put between two slices of bread.

Thank you for the Scrapbook.

Thought it appropriate to include these. We had a family holiday at Butlins Filey 1957. Joined the Butlin Beavers and I took part in all the activities until the last day. I wasn't well, returning home discovered I had caught German Measles (Rubella).

This scrapbook is a precious piece of history recorded in such a vivid, memorable way and I thank you so much for sharing it on this platform.     As an avid, modern day scrapbooker I find this  piece of history so intriguing - from all the Royal memorabilia, poignant Thoughts for the Day, even my favorite Rudyard Kipling making it into your grandmas favorites.  Amazing .... I will go back and look at it often.   I am so inspired to continue my own journey as I attempt an album for each of the  73 years I have so far been on this earth!  (including the first four of my married life which were spent in Sheffield back in the late sixties/early seventies).   Thanks again.
