It certainly is! I worked there after leaving school 1968, and the area looked different then to this photo.

Now! the surroundings appear different again.

Wow, that’s cool. So have Atkinsons been in there since day 1?

I do wonder how much longer they’ll survive……

Their original store was destroyed during the War and the replacement has always been occupied by Atkinsons. I too wonder how long they will survive ,given they are the only departmental store left out of Sheffield’s once abundant range…..when visitors came to our City to enjoy its shopping.

Well they do now have a monopoly on being the only department store present! Plus they have a good online presence too. They often come up in my Google search for products. They did have a good hardware department, I used to get loads of stuff from there. Hopefully they still do!

THIS! was a most stunning store!

When first starting work at the new store, we had a training session. At the first of which we were given the history info of the original store,

and shown photographs of the interior. Wow! it was beautiful! it had a style not unlike Liberty's in London, with balcony views.

2.30pm Fashion for out-of-doors.

6.00pm Fashion in the home.

8.00pm Fashion for special occasions.

Held in the Fashion Theatre, First Floor, Edmund Road Drill Hall, Sheffield.
