I'm interested in the late Thomas Aldam who name appears on the sign on what was the Stonehouse pub on Church St, which reads...

1797 - White & Sons - Late - Thomas Aldam - 1797

The Aldam name appears in my family tree, with my maternal great grandfather having name Thomas Aldam Fawcett, and his mother was Mary Ellen Aldam believed born 1849. She must have passed on her maiden name to their son. Sadly I don't know the name of Mary's father so Im struggling to research this blood line..

So if anyone has any information of the Aldam family I would love to hear, and to see if there is any connection with the building on Church St. I;v read of distant Aldam's becoming Quakers in Warmsworth Doncaster, but I can't link them to my family at this time.

The date of 1795 on the building, no one really seems to understand, as the building is supposedly 1800s !!

Thomas moved there in the 1840s till his death in 1858. He was an importer of Wines & Spirits.

Good luck, Heartshome

Thank you Heartshome, I'll give our tree a 'good coat of looking at' over the weekend and see if any of that info fits. Would be nice to think they are missing relations on our tree, but there could of course have been more than one Aldam bloodline in Sheffield at the same time as mine

Thanks again.

There were 2 other Thomas Aldams in Sheffield, but they didn't marry till after 1840. Regards.
