Often wondered why the flats on Ironside Road at Gleadless have the bottom most flats bricked up? Anyone have the background as to why this is?

Hi miamivice. The only thing I've been able to find out, are problems with water and damp.

And complaints about the lack of roof maintenance by the Council.

It is a strange thing, why only some of the bottom flats blocked up.

I thought maybe some atrocity had happened in them. Wonder if they were filled in or just literally bricked up and left as a void. I recall This Is England were filmed in some of the blocks.

They were just one bedroom properties and similar can be seen under Maisonettes on Plowright, Middle Hay and as already stated by Heartshome it was the damp, cold and lack of maintenance.
