Thanks for that, I've updated my original posting with your information. Will update my master spreadsheet as well, yours is the ONLY entry derived from a Census record !!

Any further Census publication notifications gratefully received, I'm currently ploughing through an alphabetical 1871 listing, trying to find more - Gosh it's slow reading !!!

Sign reads:

"These premises have a unique claim to fame as the only remaining official pound house in Sheffield. It was built in the late 1880's on land belonging to the Duke of Norfolk who was also the Earl of Arundel and Surrey and Lord of what was then still the Manor of Sheffield. These premises inherited the manorial rights of being a pound house. The Landlord was known as the Pinder and he had the right to round up and hold any stray animals-horses, cows, sheep-until their owners collected them. He could charge a fee for their return. The stables are still used to this day, to house two percherons belonging to Vaux Brewery in Sunderland, when they visit Sheffield for their processions and other person appearances. They are to be found at the rear of the building."

Harrington Road at the rear of the Earl was where Mrs Dyson moved to after  Charlie Peace shot her husband.

The Earl of Arundel was the Saturday night out pub of choice for my wife's aunt and uncle. Remember meeting up with them on a few occasions in 1971, the entertainment would be well underway by the time we arrived,  pianist and drummer in full swing  providing the backing for anyone brave enough to get on stage and do a turn, some of the regulars came dressed up to do their act, any singers not up to a certain standard were played out by the musicians(upping the tempo) great night out and all for nowt.
