RichardB
This one is taking a while, a pub that was at the junction of High Street and High Court (I remember a Manfield shoe shop at about the right location) - it was there for a long time and features in several entries from the Church Burgesses and Town Trustees, some reasonably well known historical Sheffielders have had a hand in its past. So, why the VERY careful searching, go to Google, type in the following search Sheffield +cock see what you make of the results

Guest ginney
Thanks to all. My dad was correct then when he told me many years ago that a relation had a pub on Dunlop Street. With your listings as well I found him, though it wasn't a pub but a beerhouse. Was a beerhouse like a room in their own house where they sold beer ? Guest tsavo
Glad you found the answer, Ginney. Your description of a beerhouse sounds about right to me.
