duckweed
Yes that's right by the Mayor on 9th October 1891. However they didn't have a name for the building. They weren't sure whether to call it Corporation Buildings or Municipal Buildings or Council House. There were some objections that the budget was a bit tight. SteveHB
Why are there the date stones for 1886 and 1887-1888?
RichardB
Maybe early on the progress was slow and each stone counted as a cornerstone, the egg-box would have had hundreds of 'em ...

RichardB
Could a cornerstone mark the beginning and later date stone(s) mark significant achievements, like completion, opening date, not falling down ??
SteveHB
Could a cornerstone mark the beginning and later date stone(s) mark significant achievements, like completion, opening date, not falling down ?? Thanks, the site was cleared to make way in 1886 according to Wiki, so the date stone probably relates to that
RichardB
Needs more thought, is 1891 the end of the demo;ition or the start of construction, or indeed the start of the start of construction, i.e. the end of demolition. What does the stone say ?? Maps !!!!
