ukelele lady
Did anyone have a party when it was the Silver Jubilee? I remember the landlord at our local pub letting us use the pub for a party. The ladies saw to all the food eg: some would bring sandwiches , some would bring sausage rolls , another pork pies. Then we had the ladies who could bake that did a great job with the cakes and trifles. I'm not quite sure what the men did In the afternoon someone had organized fun and games, a three legged race etc for the kids, a knobbly knees contest for the men and a obstackle race for the females [ not a pretty sight ] The children all received a Silver Jubilee cup. In the evening the adults were left to carry on partying, a good time was had by all.
togger
Yeah I remember it well. The whole street went down to the Hillfoot Pub at Hillfoot bridge. Food, games, laughs and for the adults beer. Is it me or is it different these days because I remember everyone getting involved and having a good time, bu now it is not quite the same. Happy memories. DaveH
I was at University at the time in Hull in my final year I lived in Halls at Cottingham and we had a party there. We also got invited by the local village residents to their do in a local park. Some of us who raised money for charity that year also got invited to a private jubilee party at the Vice Chancellors house.
RichardB
I was 15 at the time and have no memories of the day other than getting a small silver ingot. We had elderly neighbours at Greenhow Street, my Grandmother was still with us but try as I might I can't remember anything about the day.
dunsbyowl1867
I was 14 and like Richard have not memories of the day whatsoever though being a bit of an angry young man at the time I was very taken with Punk Rock and remember buying Sex Pistols and Stranglers singles in May 1977 so I don't think I'd have gone to a street paty even if they had had one - we were living in Firth Park/Page Hall.
