RichardB
Well done to one and all ! Guess the year ! All information gratefully received. Where is it ? Work out the dates of occupation for the firms shown and then narrow down the range. Any clues for style of clothing ? transport ? width of the road ? ukelele lady
I'd say it was Fargate but the year??? Maybe around 1915?
RichardB
Fargate, correct. That's the easy bit out of the way Open to all Members, any information will help to build up a best guess as to the year. What years was Davy's on Fargate, for example ? (I'm the judge on this one, as I own the document it came from. Currently I think I can date it to within two years - as an example 1974-76 - note this is just an example, I'm not suggesting it's from the 1970's !) I'd say it was Fargate but the year??? Maybe around 1915?
madannie77
It has to be 1898 or before, as there are no tram tracks.
RichardB
That is a fine comment, and, as a non-transport person - not something I would have known, or even considered. Edit : I've been out for 30 minutes, I'd like to re-classify "It has to be 1898 or before, as there are no tram tracks." as absolutely brilliant, a masterpiece even. RichardB
1888 will do it, couple MadAnnie's answer with what you may, or may not see, if you look left from the spot the photo was taken - this may enable us to pinstone, sorry pin the date down more ... My date of publication covers two years...
