dunsbyowl1867
Hi Hannah, This was his address - the court system of housing was common in Sheffield. If you search the site I believe there are discussions about them in more detail 14 Court 3Hse Porter Street Ypres- otherwise pronounced as "Wipers" by British Soldiers was a major battle on the Western Front in WW1. If you Google Ypres there will be masses of information DofWd's - this stands for the Duke of Wellington's Regiment - a lot of Yorkshire men served in this. Again search on Google. Tele. 4/3/15. - possibly the date a telegram was sent about wounding/reported missing Pte. 2nd KOYLI. - This means he was a Private solider in the Kings own Yorkshire Light Infantry. I hope that is all correct & helpful Paul
RichardS
DofWd's, Would this not have been died of wounds?
Bayleaf
DofWd's, Would this not have been died of wounds? I'm sure you're right Richard. 3Hse is 3rd House. Sheff Tele is the date reported in the Sheffield Telegraph, and the 2nd KOYLI would be the 2nd Battalion, of, as Paul says, the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry.
