dunsbyowl1867
I've often wonderd - my Dad was born in Papar Mill Road on Shiregreen. Still quite a way from this Paper Mill in Ecclesfield but it is the only one I can find in the area? Is the pond behind Ecclesfield WMC connected to the Mill? hilldweller
One of the water wheels on the Rivelin was in use for a time as a paper mill, the Third Coppice Wheel. It was located at about the point where the Black Brook joins the Rivelin. Something I found interesting was that an aquaduct was constructed over the Rivelin to bring the waters of the cleaner ? Blackbrook over to the paper mill for use in the manufacture of the paper. I think I read somewhere that rivers/streams were called black because of their lack of colouring/pureness. I used to live very close to where the Blackbrook originally arose but it didn't look very clean in the sometimes water filled void under our floor.
