S6 - A Question For Discussion.

Travelling behind a car near Hexham I commented on the S4 numberplate; a Sheffield colleague was in the car at the time.

Another passenger mentioned she'd carried out some survey or other at University, part of which involved asking people their postcode.

The non-Sheffield students initially thought almost everyone they asked was from Essex, but got a grip of the lingo in time to work out it was "S6".

So, they discussion wandered off into "just how big is S6 postcode district ?" both in terms of population and physical size ? Is it unusual compared to other postcode districts ?

Any comments appreciated; I suppose we should put a date on the enquiry - say 2000 or 2001 - should be some statistics available from then, I hope.
