Strawberry

A roan horse, foaled in 1764.

At Sheffield in September 1769 Strawberry won £50 (carrying 8st 6lb), beating, at three four-mile heats, Mr Fawcett's Slow and Easy, aged, 10st 2lb, Dr Acker's Statesman, aged, 9st 1il, and Mr Wormley's Foxhunter.

Emperor

A bay gelding, foaled in 1765, property of the Honourable Morgan Vane.

At Sheffield in September 4th 1771 he won £50 for five year olds, carrying 8st 6lb and six year olds, 9st 4lbs, 4 mile heats, beating Mr Patterson's Silvertial, 5 years old; and distanced Mr Coulson's Merry wee pipe, 6 years old.

Becephalus

Becephalus won two fifties at Durham in 1779; the Cup, valued at 80 gs., at Sheffield in May 1780, beating Phocior, Hypocrite etc. (Becephalus dropped down dead at Newcastle, June 1781).

Riddle

A chestnut mare, foaled in 1765

Sister to Conundrum, Rathos, Aenigma, Miss Timms, Pumpkin, Maiden, Raffelas (long "S", maybe Rasselas), and Purity, by Match'em, out of Mr Pratt's famous "Old Squirt Mare".

At Sheffield, September 12 1770 she won £50 for horses &c. four-mile heats, carrying 8st 10il beating Mr. Vane's Emperor, 5 years old, 8st 6il; Mr Jordon's Charity, 6 years old, 9st 8il; and Mr Coulson's Feignwell, 5 years old, 8st 6il.
