RichardB
On offer is an old engineer’s notebook from the mid 1830s. It measures 8” x 5” and is bound in leather or other skin covers. There are the remains of a metal clasp. It’s owner has made an alphabetical index at the front and his notes in a very neat hand are as follows: 1. Prices for Removing Various Types of Excavation 2. Prices for Walling 3. Chev de Pambour (??) on Locomotive Engines upon Railways 4. Table of the Resistance of Trains on Inclined Planes 5. Stockton & Darlington Railway – elevations 6. Statement of Work done by Engineers on the Stockton & Darlington Railway from July 1st to Dec 1st 1833 7. Price of Leads 8. Wadsley and Langset T(urn) P(ike) Road – New Branch 1838 9. Estimate of the cost of 8. 10. London & Brighton Railway tunnels The rest of the pages (a good proportion of the book) are blank. The pages are foxed here and there and the covers are faded and worn. A unique item possibly of some historical & archive interest – particularly the estimates for the Wadlsey & Langset Turnpike Road - £7823-9-6! eBay, £3.99, 1 day 9 hours, 1 bid, not bidding.
