Guest bro
Hello does anyone have any info on Tinsley Park collieries towards mid to late 19th century.I believe the first shaft was sunk c1852.Was this the Peacock pit and if so what seam did it work and at what depth? Also, looking at an old ordnance survey map of the collieries there appear to have been several pits number 2,7(the peacock pit) and 3 and 4 pits .From what I've read only one shaft was sunk in the nineteenth century (i.e the one in 1852) so were these other pits Drift mines or opencast workings? Also am I correct in thinking that coal outcropped close to the surface in the Sheffield area.If so were collieries in the area mainly drift or deep mines? I would be greatful for any info. P.S When were locomotives first used at Tinsley Park for moving coal wagons? Regards Bro
