ukelele lady
As many of us have not been able to get to where we should have been today , why not let's make the most of the situation. I know the kids are doing just that by sledging and snowballing etc. Now most of us go around with our cameras clicking here and there, what about posting all our snow, winter photographs and choose a Christmas winner. Here's one to start, maybe I might get some better ones tomorrow.

It's not just the snow though, - it's the extreme low temperatures as well. ..and while it is this cold I just want to stay indoors and keep warm. Have you seen hilldwellers topic on the very low temperatures we are currently experiencing? Baby it's cold outside

Baby it's cold outside I'll be heading off for Hexham again tomorrow - that's what part-time work will do to you. Taller than that, greener, more-doors-mobile willing ... spade, gloves, scarf, cat-litter, blanket, scraper etc loaded ... big, strong boots a-warming indoors - the kitten keeps sticking her head in there. Good luck, Don't forget the packed lunch, flask of hot drink and a mobile phone. I am in limbo at present, - will school open or not tomorrow? Still waiting for a call, text or message from the management team after they make a decision on it. It is still snowing here and there are fresh falls so it is not looking good. vox
Wife walked to work. I walked to the shops Got back home and the key broke in the lock. Locked out. Fortunately we have another door. Unfortunately my wife had the key and she was at work. Burried the frozen stuff in the snow. Dug the van out. Ploughed my way down the side roads then up onto Crookes. Drove to the Hallamshire to get the front door key. Back over Crookes Ploughed my way back down my road. All started at 9am It's now nearly 12 0'k Off out to the clear the pavement in a bit. If someone wants to sue me they're welcome to try. Edit: Why can't I get rid of the 2 duplicate pictures at the bottom ? You had uploaded 10 but only attached 8, I deleted the spare

DaveH
Brother-in-law just arrived from Nottingham 2 days ago. He said there was 4 inches of snow on the ground when he left. Yes, he wasn't lying they probably did have 2 inches of snow 2 days ago, they probably have well over a foot of snow now. Nice to see from your picture that someone is enjoying a nice antipodean, Tasmanian summer. B)
DaveH
It had to be done, the cat had to go outside, to do what cats do Had a similar problem with the dog. The snow comes up beyond the top of her legs so that her chest and stomach drag through the snow, - now that must be cold! It also makes doing what dogs do rather difficult. ..and as Stuart knows, our dog, a cross German Shepherd / Border Collie isn't the smallest of dogs. DaveH
Today I was a teacher it snowed so I was told to stay at home. Only difference though Stuart is that I am being paid for it. Told to stay at home again today. Just as well, I don't think either my car or my wifes car are going anywhere in a hurry. Now somewhere on this site is a topic started by Markbaby called "Remember when we had real snow?" which has pictures of his car buried under snow in (I think) 1978-9 winter. When I find it I will "Link Fairy" it, but at present the site search facility isn't working The answer of course is yes, - you don't need to remember it we have got real snow now. ...and we are only just out of November with a forecast of more to come. DaveH
Here's the view from the back windows of Hilldweller Towers. If the heating packs up I could always build an igloo. HD Not quite what I expected hilldweller, There appears to be houses higher up the hill than your own, so although you live on an exact high altitude contour its not exactly the highest dwelling on the hill. Perhaps you are more like the Grand Old Duke of York's mens who were "only half way up" lol
madannie77
Meanwhile, up in the north (so far north it is almost in Scotland), a mere two to three inches has fallen in total since the weekend, although it is snowing at present. This is only the third time that snow has settled on my garden in the 10 years I have lived in Carlisle. Just a little covering of about an inch which keeps getting topped up by intermittent flurries. Unsurprisiingly, I live close to a railway line (and there is another one less than a quarter of a mile away) Glad I passed through Sheffield on Monday :)

Bloke across road works in Sainsburys at Crystal Peaks, couldn't get to work because the main road hasn't been ploughed or gritted and nothing is moving,- not even the Supertram from Manor Top to Halfway. Wife walked to Manor Top to buy provisions. Managed to get bread but no milk. Shops can't get deliveries and what they have is selling out fast. Perhaps you are more like the Grand Old Duke of York's mens who were "only half way up" I'm afraid it's an optical illusion, the houses behind us are quite a bit lower. Our upstairs windows look over their roofs toward Kirk Edge & High Bradfield. There are houses in the neighbourhood that are a bit higher on the old hospital site but only by a few feet. As I mentioned before our last home at Hallam Head was about 75 feet higher although nearer the city. I'm afraid my marching days are well and truly over HD

ukelele lady
It looks like we are all in the same boat [ except for those in Tasmania that is ] The poor birds food tables are covered and as soon as you put food out for them it gets covered again within minutes. It's still snowing and heavy snow has been forcast for Sheffield tomorrow, BRrrrrr.
ukelele lady
They keep saying it's the worst snow fall for one hundred years but I was always told it was in 1947 and it lasted for 3 months . They couldn't stock up their freezers then nor did they have the thermol clothing we have today.
vox
Unable to move either car. Snow on the road is over a foot deep so front bumper of car would be pushing it along anyway. Same on the side roads here. The "Escort Snow Plough" copes very well though. Front wheel drive, heavy engine, narrow wheels and high profile tyres - can't go wrong. Luckily the deep snow was soft enough to be ploughed out of the way. Wide, low profiles look nice and sporty but they're useless in this weather.
