neddy
You also flattened the Prospect View (Cuckoo) PH, if I'm correct? And most of the surrounding area Kent Road down to the bottom of Gleadless Road, I remember a MASSIVE oak beam coming out of the cottages must have weighed three ton, digger had a struggle with it.. tozzin
The steps up to the cottages are still there, roughly opposite where the " Cuckoo " stood.
SteveHB
The steps up to the cottages are still there, roughly opposite where the " Cuckoo " stood. I took some photos of the steps a while back, but lost them when a hard drive failed, it is those steps that were known locally as "The Mangling Steps". SteveHB
OK, so when did "Newfield Green Road" become "Gleadless Road"? Not sure Markbaby, Gleadless Road looks to terminate just above Penn's Road and Cat Lane in the 1879 directory, with no mention of Newfield Green Road, but that could be down to boundaries. I will take a look in the Derbyshire directories.

History dude
Yep that's William's Dad! I suspect these photo's were actually taken in the Gleadless Road property. William Walton Benton is the chap with the thick tie 2nd from the left on the bottom photo. George Albert the one with the chain from his waistcoat. SteveHB
The Benton's also lived at 386 Gleadless Road in the 1911 census! Isn't number 386 Gleadless Road still standing dude?
History dude
There are some Edwardian type properties and one of them does carry the number 386 and is still standing. But it doesn't look like the building in the photographs. So if they did live in the Edwardian house, then the photo was taken somewhere else. It's funny how there's a big distance between where 389 stood and where 386 now stands. Possible house renumbering?
