Guest Maddie
I have my grandads membership card for the Dial dated 1938 - before he passed in 1997 he held the title of the oldest livng member ( so we were led to believe as they held a party for him ) now that title can never be taken away from him. As a child I remember the trips to Skegness - lots of coaches, the kids went separate to the adults, my grandad was on the comittee at that time

Edmund
The "Sun Dial" public house fronting the highway at Wadsley was occupied by Matthew Hague in May 1839, when it was up for sale. The owner of the lots was Samuel Coopland senior. who occupied an adjacent dwelling house, garden and workshop. By the time the "Sun Dial" was occupied by the Roberts family it was known interchangeably as Dial House, possibly to break the link with its identity as a public house. His name was Ray. I know his surname too but annoyingly, I can't bring it to mind just now.
