Guest transit
Comments, criticism, ideas anything accepted for consideration ....well done Stuart for trying to simplify the items , making it easier and quicker to find a subject when asked about a particular item from, say , a new member. Just one problem i can see , is that most topics start off on a certain subject , and tend to wander into something else - as ANY - topic can ! For example - Bridge St Bus Station eventually tapers onto Andrews Buses (partly my fault i admit) which you only stumble accross by sifting through the original topics.

There are limits to what you can do, I suppose a short description might help for some, some are not obvious from the title
THYLACINE
Comments, criticism, ideas anything accepted for consideration Boy, you transport guys certainly look after your site, like restoring an old steam engine, you polish up the brass, grease the bearings check the boiler and leave nothing to chance. You make things so easy. I've got no criticism and no ideas, you guys are just streets ahead.
RichardB
Magnificent job Sir. Always going to be the case of a thread swinging away from the original topic but there is nothing we can do about that.
DaveH
Comments, criticism, ideas anything accepted for consideration Great job Stuart Are we going to have a pinned index of threads for every topic on Sheffield History and not just transport? It is getting a bit crowded with threads now and the search function isn't always that good (well to be honest at times its absolutely useless) so an index is an excellent solution (until of course the index gets too long, but being alphabetical it can then be split by letter groups or even seperate letters. It doesn't really bother me too much that threads wander from their original topic theme because if you read all the posts in order there will be a progression in the interchange of ideas. Most usually go back on topic eventually anyway. It isn't always possible to categorise things into a single thread anyway as they may have elements common to several threads. The important thing is can we find what we are looking for amongst those thousands, and still increasing, posts? I am sure that indexing in this way will take us closer to ensuring that we can. You make things so easy. I've got no criticism and no ideas, you guys are just streets ahead. I wish restoring an old steam engine (traction engine) was as simple as polishing brass, greasing bearings and checking boilers Phil. Most engines that come into preservation are just a rusting useless heap of scrap with most of the bits missing. Restoration usually involves getting new bits made to an exact original pattern or having a new boiler made to current safety standards, both very expensive and very time consuming. In my years on the committee of Sheffield Steam & Vintage Club i developed an amazing amount of respect for the people that are dedicated to doing this sort of thing. Like you said Phil, these guys are perfectionists.
