Wednesday's First game at Hillsborough

2nd September 1899

The new ground was opened by the Lord Mayor Alderman W. E. Clegg and Wednesday played their first match (Division II) against Chesterfield, Wednesday running out 5-1 winners.

The Wednesday dropped no points at home and scored 61 goals in seventeen matches, they went until December 30th without losing any one of fourteen league matches.

Langley (left Middlesbrough Ironopolis for the Wednesday in 1893)

Ferrier

Crawshaw

Ruddleston

Brash (new signing)

Pryce

Miller (previously with Paisley Abercorn, Reading and Bury)

If I'm not mistaken, Herbert Munday of Chesterfield scored the first goal at the ground.
