Here are a few I found in the Sheffield Directory 1774.

Thomas Watson Inn holder Market Place. He has a mourning coach,palls,cloaks and a post-chaises ??? to let.

John Webster publican. Keeps a bowling green at Little Sheffield.

John Taylor Blue Boar. West Bar.

Paris Justice Golden Ball Spring Street.

Joseph Henson Inn holder Horse and Cat High Street.

Thomas Hill Fountain West Bar.

William Hill Crown and Cushion in the Wicker.

Thomas Gray Crown in the Wicker.

George Fox African Prince Lambert Street.

Joseph Ballamy Peartree Millsands.

Jonathon Wilde Barrow Broad Lane.

Excellent, not sure I know the Peartree; the African Prince I think is recorded in the Town Accounts, gave him £55 or some such. Would be nice to have a name, a good date, a reason why an African Prince would visit ...

Thank you, I don't have 1774 Directory, is that Sketchleys, or are they curtain dry-cleaners ?

I never took notice who's directory but I'll have a look next time round.

I believe there was a Peartree on Woodside Lane sometime or other.
