Guest Gramps
Which feature is the folly ? Is it the large conservatory or the church tower ? I didn't know there was a church up there. It's not indicated on the Godfrey map and we don't seem to have a 1950s map for the area. Edit: I have now found this photo which suggests that what looks like a church tower is the folly. Zoom of that photo Hope somebody has some info about it.

As you say Gramps it is the church tower, I have not seen reference to this before and has only appeared on these new set of photos. lol
Guest JSP
Is this of any help? Found it on Wikipedia in an article about Burngreave Ward: Shirecliffe Shirecliffe (grid reference SK355905) is a suburb of Sheffield, lying west of Wincobank. Its name comes from "scir-cliffe", a bright, steep hillside. In the mediaeval period, the area was owned by the De Mounteney family, who had a seat at Shirecliffe Hall, demolished in the early nineteenth century. In 1676, the hall was home to a congregationalist church, founded by the curates of James Fisher, who had been ejected as Vicar of Sheffield. (Ironically the James Fisher mentioned is an ancestor of mine!) JP
