There is/was an alternative Search facility - provided by Jeremy - think it was asked to be embedded in the main title bar - believe it was in a thread called "Say has anybody seen" - maybe someone can find it - please ? DaveH
Ha ha Do we have any photographs/links of the Britannia Brewery that once stood off Bramall Lane, apart from this one that shows it in the background ? Would that be the old brewery building I used to work at in 1974 when it was Endcliffe Motors garage and parts for cars. It was on the corner of Bramall Lane and Clough Road. I thought it was originally the Albion brewery and not the Britannia, but perhaps there were 2 breweries on Bramall Lane anyway. Unfortunately I cannot get OS Map No. 24 to download and display to check this.

DaveH
Was this the place Dave .. (reduced size crop) Link to 1950's OS map #23 Yes that's it Steve, exact location. So it looks like I have worked in the old Britannia brewery building then! I worked there July to September 1974 for £12 a week after I had finished my A-levels but before going off to university for the first time. It was a "student vacation job" to keep me out of the benefits system. At the time the brewery was long gone and it was Endcliffe motors, a car place specialising in Jenson sports cars. They had me doing all sorts of jobs, including fitting a carpet for the ladies on the forecourt tills and in the office and serving bikers with "shots" of 2 stroke oil as the machine for doing this was a bit temperamental and I had a "knack" with it. However my main job was removing stock from dexian shelving units, catalogueing it, storing it in another brewery room then dismantling the shelving, taking it to the brewery vat rooms, reassembling it, along with a lot of new stuff and finally putting the stock back on the shelves and creating a new inventory list and location list for it. This took me into the brewery building quite a bit. It was obviously run down and had not been used for years. It did however retain that distinctive brewery smell. In the vat room there were large circular holes in the floor going down to the room below (the running off room?) where large fermenting vats would have once stood. Stu_1981
A bit of relevant history. I unearthed this beer bottle in my garden very recently. It still has the original stopper! Writing reads: John Richdale & Co Ltd Britannia Brewery Sheffield. I'd love to be able to age the bottle. Someone has suggested that it could be 1910-1920.
