Guest LNE2511
Could anyone help me? I need some info about the bulding next to Information Commons. Is the brick walled garden an extension of The University Arms? How is it used? What was it before? Does it have a history? etc.. Thanx in advance

Thanx in advance In the angle between Housfield Rd, Leavygreave Rd and Favell Rd there used to be years ago Ward's University Bookshop, which was in an old house. The boundary I think you mean could be the perimeter wall of the garden behind the house. Oh, and welcome to the Forum!

RichardB
Just a thought or two ... Leavygreave Road not Leavygrave 77 hits for Leavygreave on : http://www.sheffieldrecordsonline.org.uk/ 13 for Favell Road would help to have some idea of the house number of the bookshop building - old Directories maybe ... RichardB
Thought three ... University Arms ??? (I'm not wildly interested in modern Pubs, but they should be added to the list where suitable information can be supplied, names of premises, name of landlord/lady, date - presumably 2008, me I give up at 1951, more honestly 1925 - both well before I was born)
Bayleaf
thank u so much! Yeah that's what I meant! Oh.. and could you tell me where I can find some more info about that bookshop? I would really appreciate it! It was A.B.Ward, a local shop that was later bought out by one of the big chains. Wards was a Sheffield bookshop for a long time, and had the shop at the university and one in town on Chapel Walk for many years. I would think a visit to the Local History Library would be worthwhile, I'd be surprised if they didn't have some information, and they have a huge collection of old maps so you could see the area before it was redeveloped.
