Guest Old Canny Street Kid
Added to the list. Thank's Popt. Welcome to SH. Ernest Hall was a member of a famous Sheffield cutlery firm, and he first went over to the United States to start an American branch of the company. He did very well, and settled over there. I believe it was Hall's daughter who was Hemingway's mother. Well worth studying one of the better Hemingway biographies to get more details --and well worth someone's time to research the Sheffield background! Guest Old Canny Street Kid
Hi do you think he could be one of these? http://www.picturesheffield.com/cgi-bin/pi...ff.refno=s09096 No, the firm was NOT Walker & Hall. I will try to check sometime soon, but the firm had Hall in the title and it was well known. I think the premises were somewhere near the bottom of Duke Street, but have gone now. ceegee
An update on Ernest Hemingway's Sheffield Connection can be found here, together with a photo of Ernest in the US http://www.chrishobb.../ernesthall.htm The article states that in the 1841 Census the family were living in Brook Hill - it appears that futher information on the Hemingway Family Tree can be found at McMillan Family History Pretty impressive site!
