Guest Desy
THE CORN EXCHANGE SHEFFIELD (located opposite the old Rag n Tag market) I know this could be a bit of a long shot but by the time I heard of the old Corn Exchange it had been bombed and was derelict. I know that the National Market Traders Federation were based in there . But who else? anyone know.
POPPYCHRISTINA
I know this could be a bit of a long shot but by the time I heard of the old Corn Exchange it had been bombed and was derelict. I know that the National Market Traders Federation were based in there . But who else? anyone know. The Duke of Norfolk had offices there as I used to go with my dad to pay the ground rent. I can remember having to walk on duckboards on scaffolding aroud the inside edges as the centre of the building was missing .
Guest TexxUK
The Sheffield branch of The Incorporated Seamen and Boatmen’s Friend Society were in the Corn Exchange. They looked after the spiritual welfare of people on the canal. My maternal grandfather was full-time missionary there in the late thirties. Their address was No.4, Corn Exchange Buildings. I might have a couple of photos somewhere, I'll try and dig them out.
Guest plain talker
I STR that the Picturesheffield site has some fantastic photos of the corn exchange, and the bomb damage to one of the towers etc. Sadly I'm too young to remember the Corn Exchange, though I do remember the rag'n'tag market very well.
