Guest transit
Hmm... Canal basin seems to have changed a bit since my day. ...once again ,great pic Dave - reminds me of going down there 76/77 to help restore the Sheffield bus 1156 during weekends with Busman and others, where it was garaged -along with the Proctors lorries and orange Turners news vans . Nice to know the building with Canal Wharf sign on was restored. Check out the pic used as Busmans avatar !!!!!!!! :o

Nice to know the building with Canal Wharf sign on was restored. Check out the pic used as Busmans avatar !!!!!!!! I don't know about a "great picture" this time. Even with my particular liking for old Sheffield this is one area that has been drastically improved by the modern development along the canal basin. Before this it really did look a bit of a neglected dump as my picture shows. In recent years I have been to several enjoyable events in this location and these would hardly have been possible before the renovation.

Do you need a licence / permit to fish a carp laiden canal? Have you got one? That's not me in the photograph Dave ! At the time that photo were taken the main part of the Canal Basin was out of bounds for angling, but a few years later the area along side of the Basin was turned into a car park, it was then that public access was allowed, and so the anglers moved in and started to fish in the much wider basin part. This is me, photo taken on the same day as the above.

RE was never my strong point) Obviously not illegal to fish the canal then if you are prepared to post your own picture displaying your catch
DaveH
I like the sign 'No Parking' with 4 cars parked in front of it Well it is an old picture, and with less cars on the road it must have been much easier to get away with parking offences. I don't think they had wheel clamping run by gangs of crimanals on behalf of the law in 1974. These days those 4 cars would probably be clamped and charged an extotionate release fee with interest added by the minute, - and can you please pay us by credit / debit card so that we can scam your card details while were at it! Guest Nimrod
Does Joe Scarborough still have a boat moored in the basin ? The old boy must be getting on a bit by now. Always loved his artwork.
Stuart0742
During the present cold spell the canal is frozen over. This panorama is almost a 180 degree view of the canal
