This is a copy from two Carte-de-Visite size photographs by Inskip of Glossop Road on albuminised paper. The buildings and grounds were in existance about 1873, between the junction of Abbeydale Road and London Road, and extended to Heeley Station, as the people in the house were able to watch the building of the railway. It was occupied by George Wilson of Cammells Ltd. The sister of the lady who lived there, married the engineer in charge of building Heeley Station. It was also occupied by Richard Solly, Ironmaster, who was a Unitarian and a descendant of Thomas Hollis, founder of Hollis Hospital. Richard Solly was a member of the Town Council Nov.1st 1849 to Sept 10th 1855. Dickens visited Fieldhead House in 1858, as described in his Life. This house has now been pulled down, and the site and grounds are covered with houses.
