Fatal accident at Nunnery Colliery

My granddad Robert sustained a broken spine as a result of being crushed between a full tub of coal and the pit side of Nunnerley colliery on 14 May 1947. He died in the Sheffield Royal Infirmary on the 16th. The coroner for the City of Sheffield raised an inquest on the 17th.

Would anyone know if I can see a copy of this?

Also, would grandma have received any compensation?

Many thanks,
Derek.

I think you mean Nunnery Colliery.

Inquests are often covered in the local newspapers.

There's an image below of the pit in 1951.

You might have better luck at the Local Studies Library, Sheffield.  For the newspapers.

The inquests are held at Sheffield Archives, 52 Shoreham Street.

Coroner’s registers 1926-1974 and inquest files 1940-1974(CC1)

Order before you visit - Coroners’ records are restricted access for up to 75 years. Permission to see records less than 75 years old must first be obtained from the coroners' office.
