Guest tsavo
The 30HP Sheffield Simplex car prior to road testing. Can't see a driving seat though.....may end in disaster. They were built at the Fitzwilliam Works in Tinsley. Guest tsavo
The Bleriot monoplane was the first aircraft to fly across the Chanel, if I remember rightly. I remember seeing a replica fly at an air show at the old Lindholme Air Force station, nr Doncaster on their open day. Looked as if contact with as single sparrow would have written it off! Hjdary
I think that Simplex made mostly cheap run abouts and when that failed they went on to making bodys for bin lorrys and such like. They were still going in the 1990's as at that time they were making bits for council pick up vans on Transit/LDV chassis. I think that they were owned by Towsure. Up Neepsend there is a factory with their name on it ....not sure if they are still is buisness or not though.
Guest neracar-ken
Here's a MUCH better website for the Ner-a-Car, made by Sheffield Simplex. http://neracar.co.uk And here's a short video of a Ner-a-Car being ridden. It's one of the Ner-a-Cars from the Kelham Island Museum, run by Sheffield Industrial Museums Trust. I had it on loan for the summers of 2001 and 2002. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kn_wDPWZ6-k
