Minnie
One of my ancestors was listed in the censuses of 1841 to 1861 as a Penknife Cutler/Spring Knife Cutler. Please could anyone tell me exactly what that involved? Did they make the entire penknife or just the blades? Would he have worked in a factory or were they just made in the home? During this time the family lived at Kenyon Street/ Garden Street and Eldon Street - were there any particular manufacturers in this area at that time? I would be interested to know anything about his occupation. Thanks
