tozzin
I’ve heard of Birdcage Walk before but I don’t know just where it was, has anyone any idea just where this romantic sounding walk was situated?

SteveHB
May be a connection to the Regimental Headquarters of the Grenadier Guards, Wellington Barracks on Birdcage Walk, London? "For enquiries about former members of the Regiment, please note that all Records of Service (including Officers) have been transferred to the Ministry of Defence and we are no longer able to answer any queries about individuals who have served in the Regiment." https://www.grengds.com/contact
SteveHB
What a beautiful looking avenue, and right beside St. James's Park https://goo.gl/maps/e1YSzFHstRGhwaA69
dannyno
There are a few of them - London is the famous one, but also there's one in Leeds and a few others. But none in Sheffield as far as I can see.
antony
Its oddly ringing a bell with me, but no idea where it may have been. I asked my parents, who both went ‘ooh yes’, but again sadly, cant remember where it was 🤔
tozzin
I think most of the posts are correct and London is the one most people have heard about but sadly not in Sheffield. But I’m sure I’ve heard of it.
tozzin
Further to Birdcage walk: Here’s a readable text. The Photo is interesting. It shows how the corporation tried to protect children from falling down a steep bank. But one child his head fast between the bars and they had to be mechanically opened to liberate him out of the circular portion. Perhaps the photo might jog someone’s memory, if it is in Sheffield it could be around the Crookes or Walkley area. It’s now plain to see why it acquired its name. dannyno
Perhaps not an official name, then.
