I must have walked past this hundreds of time times but never noticed it before. What does it mean?

Its on Ashfurlong road next to a footpath, reads [A St. J.C.C. 1877 No 3]

The Abbeydale St John's Church (Cricket Club?). https://www.amchurchsheffield.co.uk/about-us

The date fits in with the early years of the Church and presumably there would have been other similar markers relating to the land boundaries of the recreational areas which exist to this day.

Thanks everyone, excellent deduction.  I know the Church but never knew about 'consolidated chapelry'.boundaries

.The challenge now is to find the other two markers?

Sorry, not quite so simple!  If you flip to page 392   thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/24546/page/392 and read the continuation of the text, there are morehehe

Edit: Sheffield Collegiate Cricket Club was founded in 1881.

Wow, my brain hurts trying to read that lot.
