Sheffield History
Anyone know exactly where this is/was?
madannie77
It is indeed Norfolk Street, looking down towards Fitzalan Square. The road off to the right is Arnudel Street. That fine building is gone, of course, replaced by The Crucible. https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=18&lat=53.38103&lon=-1.46705&layers=168&right=BingHyb OS 1950s Map 4:Furniss' shop is 73-75 Norfolk Street
Sheffield History
Amazing thank you! So on the left hand side of the first photo in the thread (the one I posted) would we see The Adelphi pub?
madannie77
No, the Adelphi Hotel was off to the right of this picture, at the junction of Arundel Street and Sycamore Street, marked as Hotel on the map extract above. This Picture Sheffield image shows this clearly, although by this time Arundel Street had been renamed Tudor Way. https://picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;s20105&pos=12&action=zoom&id=22626
