I lived at 81A East Bank Rd in the fifties. Our home had been the gate lodge to a big house which was then a hotel.

Anyone remember the hotel...what became of the site? Looking at Google Maps I can see what might be the old stone wall along the road...and maybe there's a psychiatric hospital there now...

The "other" lodge, next to the lodge for the Queens Tower, for East Bank House.  It was sited in what is now the car park of the Cygnet Hospital.  The house became the East Cliffe Hotel, and was run by a partnership of William Thornton Elliott (hardware dealer) and Nellie Green (of the Norfolk Arms, Hollow Meadows) until the partnership was dissolved in January 1951 and Nellie continued to run it.
