ewanarm
It was actually the Hallam Tower Hotel. A distinctive landmark, it has recently been demolished and only two stories are left.
History dude
They used to hold regular Hi-Fi exhibitions there once a year in the 70's and 80's. Went a couple of times. It was great seeing and listening to the top end hi-fi that I could not afford!
Oldbloke
I went a few times too, I was far more impressed by the Hi-Fi than the hotel itself, it looked very cheap and nasty inside.
makapaka
I believe it was so modern / hi-tec when first built it was used as the setting for an advert for a new Ford Motor Car.
Gamal
I went in once in the 80s for a wedding reception. Can't remember it being anything special inside.
mickjj
My sister was working on the reception and managed to wangle 1966 World Cup Quater final tickets courtesy of the Uraguayan team who were staying at the there, plus autographs of the team, pennants and badges all of which I still have.
