bensonhedges
Just wondering if anyone knows what used to be on the site before the Tesco petrol station was built there? Thanks, http://goo.gl/maps/VHpKQ
Edmund
The 1956 map shows the site was next to the Workingmen's Club (club in yellow box): The land to the side looks to have been vacant all the way back to 1892 before the Club was built (between 1892 and 1905). The Smithy that gave the name to Smith Street is shown. 1892 map below:
bensonhedges
I'm now informed the site was occupied (1950's - 1960's?) by a company called Kenworthy Coaches but can't find any info on the net about them? Anybody remember them, or have any pics of their buses or site? Thanks,
vox
Kenworthy's Here's a screen print from the on-line book Ecclesfield, Chapletown & High Green From Old Photographs By Joan Jones, Mel Jones. Read on-line

bensonhedges
One for Vox maybe; everytime I try to "like" a post it says I have reached my quota of positive votes for the day, when I haven't yet "liked" any posts that day. Forum glitch maybe?
