huthwaite
I am researching my family history and wonder if anyone can help, I am trying to find the whereabouts of a place listed in the 1841 census, named Thomeld or Thorneld Croft it is listed as being in the Sheffield South area, I have hunted high and low in old ordnance survey maps but cannot find a thing. Many thanks

The data below all relates to Wrights of Sheffield South from the 1841 census; certainly makes an interesting comparison John WRIGHT 45 Burgess Street 1337/1 2 29b Sheffield South John WRIGHT 40 Fruit Market 1337/2 4 29b Sheffield South John WRIGHT 50 Shemeld Croft 1337/3 6 30b Sheffield South John WRIGHT 15 Eyre Street 1337/5 10 34b Sheffield South John WRIGHT 36 Pond St 1337/5 9 13a Sheffield South John WRIGHT 1 Brown Lane 1337/6 12 40a Sheffield South John WRIGHT 25 Lead Mill Road 1337/9 20 10a Sheffield South John WRIGHT 1 Lead Mill Road 1337/9 20 10a Sheffield South Mary WRIGHT 41 41 Coalpit Lane 1337/1 1 7b Sheffield South Mary WRIGHT 13 Burgess Street 1337/1 2 30a Sheffield South Mary WRIGHT 45 Haymarket 1337/3 5 13a Sheffield South Mary WRIGHT 50 Shemeld Croft 1337/3 6 30b Sheffield South Mary WRIGHT 12 Shemeld Croft 1337/3 6 30b Sheffield South Mary WRIGHT 40 Shemeld Croft 1337/3 6 31a Sheffield South Mary WRIGHT 9 Shemeld Croft 1337/3 6 31a Sheffield South Mary WRIGHT 20 Forge Lane 1337/3 6 35a Sheffield South Mary WRIGHT 45 Forge Lane 1337/3 6 37b Sheffield South Mary WRIGHT 45 Pond Gardens 1337/4 8 35aa Sheffield South Mary WRIGHT 80 Eyre Street 1337/5 10 35a Sheffield South Mary WRIGHT 20 Pond St 1337/5 9 14a Sheffield South Mary WRIGHT 5 Howard Lane 1337/6 12 28b Sheffield South Mary WRIGHT 49 Furnival Street 1337/7 14 6b Sheffield South Mary WRIGHT 20 Sydney Street 1337/7 15 27a Sheffield South Mary WRIGHT 20 Lead Mill Road 1337/9 20 10a Sheffield South Mary WRIGHT 4 Lead Mill Road 1337/9 20 10a Sheffield South Henry WRIGHT 20 Shemeld Croft 1337/3 6 30b Sheffield South Henry WRIGHT 4 Sydney Street 1337/7 15 27a Sheffield South Elizabeth WRIGHT 14 41 Coalpit Lane 1337/1 1 7b Sheffield South Elizabeth WRIGHT 40 Burgess Street 1337/1 2 30a Sheffield South Elizabeth WRIGHT 35 Chapel Walk 1337/2 3 18a Sheffield South Elizabeth WRIGHT 15 Shemeld Croft 1337/3 6 30b Sheffield South Elizabeth WRIGHT 20 Pond St 1337/5 9 13b Sheffield South Elizabeth WRIGHT 7m Howard Lane 1337/6 12 28b Sheffield South Elizabeth WRIGHT 40 Sydney Street 1337/7 15 26b Sheffield South Elizabeth WRIGHT 7 Furnival Street (back) 1337/7 15 26b Sheffield South Charles WRIGHT 14 Shemeld Croft 1337/3 6 30b Sheffield South Charles WRIGHT 3 Howard Lane 1337/6 12 28b Sheffield South

RichardB
Richard triumphs again. Well done mate! I may be fat and balding, but I stuck with this one for hours, nice to get a result. As Tsavo says "the fun is in the hunt" and I knew I'd get it eventually Now, there were three Shemeld Crofts in Sheffield in total, but, we've got the right family, so we won't spoil the party, lets wait till Tsavo comes up with the other two ....... <joking> Pal Hope the info helps Ruth
