RichardB
Kelham Island Museum The Kelham Island Museum is an industrial museum on Alma Street, alongside the River Don, in the centre of The City of Sheffield, England. It was opened in 1982. The island on which it is located is man-made, resulting from the construction of a mill race, in the 12th. century, which diverted water from the River Don to power a corn mill belonging to the Lord of the Manor. It is reported that the island was subsequently named after the Town Armourer, Kelham Homer, who owned a grinding workshop on the neighbouring goit (mill race) in 1637. http://www.ostamyy.com/museums/England.htm

Guest FraserS
Thanks Richard. I'm slowly trying to piece this puzzle together. I should have actually titled this topic "Green Lane Works, Eagle Works and Horseman Works". The original boundaries are as follows: From what I can gather both Horseman Works and Green Lane works have always been 2 separate works, although they were both shared I think by Miba Tzack Ltd at one stage. And Eagle Works (the tall brick structure pictured below was a building that sits within Horseman Works. Within this document it refers to Eagle Work on Russel Street, but I wander whether Russel Street originally extended into Horseman Works. http://www.wkfinetoo...botsonPeace.pdf

Guest FraserS
Thanks Steve. Guest FraserS
And before Globe Works, it was Eagle Works. I presume that Ibbotson renamed it Globe Works, and Tyzack renamed it Horseman Works in line with their brands. This is some more info on Eagle works http://www.wkfinetools.com/hUK/z-UKReading/gTweedale/gTweedale-SheffieldCutlery-02.asp This would put the timeline as follows: Timeline of Green Lane Works: 1795 - Opened by Henry Hoole and Thomas Nicholson (Hoole and Company). Manufacturers of ornamental stove grates and fenders in Bronze and metal 1933 - A.Scott, Upholstery manufacturer 1948 – W.A. Tyzack. Producer of agricultural tools, parts for farm machinery Timeline of Eagle Works: 1830 - Eagle Works opened. Charles & Samuel Peace & Co 1845 - Ibbotson, Peace & Co, and sold steel, tools, and cutlery. 1930 - Ibbotson Brothers. Producer of files and razor blades 1948 – Became Horseman Works W A Tyzack (presumed to have occupied both Green Lane Works and Horseman Works)
