KevinB
George Bradley and Sons, Watchmaker, 89 Norfolk Street (White's 1911) He must have had a shop on Fargate as well because his name and Fargate is inscribed on the watch

KevinB
It is infact George Bradey. I've only recently bought the watch (it hasn't arrived yet) but the ad for it said Bradley but the watch is engraved George Bradey. Well spotted Steve! RichardB
He might have ended up with a record shop up the top end, but, he isn't showing up in trade directories. Even when "he" does it appears he is George Bradey as per Steve's find. Hopefully someone can find him in a census or two and clear the matter up. He must have had a shop on Fargate as well because his name and Fargate is inscribed on the watch

Edmund
"An elegant timepiece from the shop of Mr Bradey, watchmaker, Fargate" was presented to the curate of St Matthews church in December 1870 (reported in the Sheffield Independent) In February 1873 George Bradey was a Councillor. From the Independent December 26 1877: STREET IMPROVEMENTS. GEORGE BRADEY, Practical and Old-established WATCHMAKER, 30, FARGATE, having received notice to quit, the Premises being required for Street Improvements, is compelled to Sell off his valuable Stock of WATCHES, CLOCKS, and JEWELLERY at a GREAT REDUCTION. Note the Address: GEORGE BRADEY, 30, FARGATE, SHEFFIELD. Established 24 Years. The plan below shows where Bradey's shop was after the road widening, and the sketch is what it would have looked like in 1877 (Bradeys shop being the furthest on the right): 1861 Census: 1871 Census: Death Notice May 10th 1892: Geo Bradey of 137 Norfolk Street in his 76th Year
