RichardB
Does anyone have access to a pre-WWII map of Walkley please ? I'm just looking for Highton Street and possibly Greenhow Street both of which run up from South Road. Many Thanks.

RichardB
1935 Thank you Steve; trying to work out why there doesn't seem to be a number 15 listed anywhere ? (Met a man today that used to live there; think some of the bottom of the Street was bombed, but, no sign of number 15 in any of the usual places before that date) ... Were either of these names mentioned. These are from the 1911 Census so they could be irrelevant. The man in question started at work today and his first comment other than Hello when introduced was "Is that Hendersons ?" because I have a bottle at work. He is, however, a youngster - but raised at 15 Highton Street (sure someone that understands such stuff will post a google street view of it); he had no particular interest until I ventured some information (like I used to live on Greenhow; The Rose Pub being put up for Sale for nowt, the Cinema etc etc). Which led me to look for number 15 and raised the question why isn't it mentioned. Still hoping for some confirmation that the immediate region was bombed; I remember a bare area + one across the road near the fireplace shop, a bit along from the laundrette on the other side where my Mother worked in the 1970's (I managed it again - didn't put 1870's). I wasn't looking for an old faml;y there; just where is/was it and why no listing ? Obviously close to my last residence in Sheffield at 54 Greenhow Street - which raised my interest. Which is always helpful for anyone looking back ...

RichardB
Google streetview Cheers Biggles I read that as a partially demolished nuber 15, later rebuilt - resulting in a standalone-terrace ... does anyone agree ? Different chimney, rendered end wall, lower buildings (numbers wise) freshly built. Any previous reference to bomb damageat that location ? or across the road on South Road please ? These are crops of the 2 maps that I have. The pink one (not at all accurate) stops just short of the area in question. The other - well it speaks for it's self. Using Steves map and streetview, from the position relative to the end of Orchard Rd, this is the numbering. 15 was one of a pair with 13.
syrup
I could be interested in a few more addresses from 1911 census if you are up for it please ? Hi Richard As my previous post states i can find no record of a number 15 Highton st and i can find no record of Highton St until 1881 and then the only numbers mentioned are 1 2 3 7 9 10 11 14 18 21 25 26 29 30 31 32 37 39 Could this be they left gaps for further house building as cash became available.
