    Norfolk School, Arbourthorne

Just read the email from wayneybabes. Great work to obtain this. Lokks like all the existing school is to be kept, including the quad, GREAT NEWS However, I don't like the look of that new bit bolted onto the front of it near Spring Lane, its not in keeping with the rest of the buildings style. Also, it looks as though a works delivery route from Cradock Road crosses the site over the top of where the annexe were (over the shelters), explaining why there may have been a small amount of surface work to create a temporary roadway in this area. There not digging the shelters up then.

    Do you remember these

Ah memories of an innocent age and didn't we watch a load of rubbish at times! I can't even blame it on the kids as they weren't born at that time. Remember we had "Thing" from the Munsters or was it the Adam's family, the hand that came out of a box. Lost in Space - how corny was that and as for Mr Ed? A wonderful trip down memory lane, thank you.
  7. As far as I know Richard, Paradise Lane is no more than an entrance into the backs of the surrounding buildings. I don't know if it was ever anything else. Definitely not cobbled. I've had it in mind to take a photo for you but not had the chance yet. Parking around there is nigh on impossible. Plan "B" is to stop, wind the window down and hope I can manage a decent snap, before I get a ticket. :)

  10. Thanks for adding your selections Mike, do you have the original images of post #338 Trippet Lane please? I had considered that one myself, but the resolution isn't high enough. Steve
  11. Great topic, well done. Born in Wickersley Nursing Home, - so I'm told Auckland Road, Mexborough - until I was 5 Birley Spa Lane, Hackenthorpe - some of the best years Scowerdons Farm - Hackenthorpe overspill estate Earl Marshall Road, Firvale - wayward youth into adulthood 1972 Sydney Australia - Biggest decision of life - still wondering. 1986 Tasmania - Sydney too b**** hot. Even though I don't have a Vox pedigree, wasn't born there and haven't lived there for 37 years, Sheffield is home and to anyone that asks, I'm from Sheffield. Thats it, end of story.

    Mystery Location

Is it on Neepsend Lane ?
  14. Never left Sheffield Derbyshire Lane, Meersbrook Southey Hall Road, Southey Green Cotleigh Rd, Hackenthorpe Broomhall Place, Broomhall Slinn Street, Crookes Gervase Road, Lowedges Club Garden Road, Sharrow Clarkgrove Road, Eccleshall Bolehill Road, Walkley YMCA, Broomhall (Don't ask) Thurston Avenue, Greenhill (?) is it? Ryle Road, Nether Edge Lodge Moor Nurses Home (Don't ask) Southgrove Road, Eccleshall Beechill Rd, Broomhill Walkley Bank Rd, Walkley Bradley Street, Crookes There were probably a couple more "Bedsit-land" places in the middle there as well. I don't remember. Some of the dates I know obviously, but the rest would be guesses. Between 1949 and now anyway. :)

    Tram Locations

A bit of putting two and two together and making five Having decided that it was Sheaf Street I wanted to find a picture to illustrate my thinking. One of the pictures searching for Sheaf Street throws up is one of Newsums on the corner of Sheaf Street and Harmer Lane. I therefore decided that the sign behind the tram said Newsums. Like Stuart0742, I am puzzled by the building to the right of the tram, though. Towards the end of the trams, this area became a car park, as seen in Stuart's overhead shot. Map 4 suggests it might be part of the Albion Saw Mills, but I can add nothing more.

    Sales Street, Pitsmoor

Steve HB Thats the one I was thinking of. I used to live near there. It is now part of the green space between Pitsmoor Rd and Woodside Lane.

    Tram Locations

Sheaf Street, opposite the Midland Station. I am finding it hard to describe exactly where because it is all so different now, and it is just to the south of the bottom of Map 4. The tobacconist's and the pepsi-cola sign are on that area of land between Sheaf Street, Harmer Lane and Pond Street. I don't know what the building there now is. The sign visible through the lower deck of the tram says "Newsums" and has an arrow pointing off to the right. The tram is presumably on the Midland Station to Walkley service and is waiting for departure time back to Walkley.

    Norfolk School, Arbourthorne

Did find that this had been uncovered at the bottom end (Spring Lane) of the excavated grass bank Unfortunately its in the wrong place to be part of the shelters and appears to be a manhole into the sewers as it is directly in line and downhill from the boys toilets in the lower school yard and the toilets at the top near the disabled unit corridor.

Yes, but my photo is not taken from exactly the same place, as well as having a bus int he way! I think we still need a "now" shot from the correct spot on Stubbin Lane. Go for it, vox lol

    Police Stations?

A few to start the list then. Hammerton Road S6 (Can't last long now) Chesterfield Rd Sub-station Northfield Road Sub-station, Crookes (there's talk of demolition) The old Hackenthorpe station. Occupation Lane Now extended but the original building is still visible. All Google Streetview images

    Tram Locations

I think this one is at the junction of Neepsend Lane and Mowbray Street, with the Norfolk Hotel on the right and the site of St Michaels and All Angels on the left, the tram heading out of the city.
  25. The first location was the gate at the yard to Rodley Inn with your guard dog Not sure about the "new location" but I am guessing Rodley Lane / Leadmill Road again. I am also guessing its your younger brother on the bike with you behind, circa 1960 something. PS I'm talking about your new avitar not the tram photo.
