dunsbyowl1867
Noticed the mention of this in the Star today - I like the 'Upstairs at Harringtons" print http://www.therealmckee.co.uk/shop.html
Guest Richard_Fox
This guys work is excellent, the "Bingo Winnings" one brings back memories for me... Sitting in Hartley House Club on a Sunday dinnertime trying to eat my packet of cheese and biscuits and drink my half of Shandy quietly while the bingo was on! Sitting in Hartley House Club on a Sunday dinnertime trying to eat my packet of cheese and biscuits and drink my half of Shandy quietly while the bingo was on! Saw an exhibition of Pete Mckee's work in the Winter Garden Millenium Galleries a couple of years ago and then saw his work for sale in the art shop (now closed) at the bottom of Cambridge Street just before it joins Pinstone Street. Really liked his cartoon style and the way he portrays Sheffield life and locations as well as the humour the images contain. One of them, called "A day trip to Castleton" shows him and his mum in a very bleak countryside, being blasted by strong cold winds and heavy rain. The caption underneath the title reads "Was it all worth it just get a piece of Blue John?"

ukelele lady
I don't know if this is stored for the up and coming events but there will be the yearly artist's exibition at the Sheffield Octagon Centre on the 9th, 10th and 11th July. You will see the likes of these by Sheffield artist Les Cornthwaite. A glass of the good stuff in Kelham Island Tavern. Mick Rick once told me when I was talking to him at his stall in Fargate market that he works from old photos or other paintings and alters them a bit by adding an extra car or tram here and there. So I am sure that this is almost certainly what has happened

Can you see the little man with the beard near the tram, well that's the painter himself, he gets in on most of the paintings. A bit like Hitchcock appearing in his own films if you are quick enough to spot him. B)

DaveH
Pete McKee at auction http://www.thestar.c..._time_1_3964174 Saw it in The Star yesterday as my eye was drawn to the highly recognisable art style of Pete McKee. (The single line eyes, cartoon style) I am a big fan of Pete's work, - I like all his stuff, all of it with a local theme. However, he is so good that his works, quite rightly, now command high prices well beyond my pocket. I once saw a big collection of his work, with humerous captions by the artist (For example a picture of 2 people on a windswept hillside in Derbyshire which was called "Day trip to Castleton" was captioned "was it all worth it just to get a piece of Blue John?") in the Winter Gardens. I think Pete deserves a big local exhibition, perhaps in the Mappin Gallery.
