Buildings on West Street

Has anybody any information on two buildings on West St, the first is the Huttons Building and the second is the Tiger Works. I would like to know what was their original use or any other information about them.

There is some information on Sheffield Library Services for The Tiger Works but not a lot for The Huttons Building.

A bit here from the latest Pevsner Guide.

Hutton's Buildings were built in 1885 for William Hutton & Sons, electroplaters. Est in Birmingham in 1800 they opened a Sheffield branch c 1832. Plain red-brick 3 storey blaock on West St with ground floor shops and a very large works built around a courtyard behind.

Tiger Works. dated 1884.

Hutton's Building - Occupants

Herbert and James Edward Hutton were listed as Silversmiths (William Hutton & Sons), at 146 West Street in the 1893 Kelly Directory. (Jacob Turner was Coachman to Herbert Turnerr and is shown at Endcliffe Crescent, 6 Vernon Terrace, Manchester Road).

Herbert Hutton lived at 81 Clarkehouse Road in 1911. (White's Directory)

The Secretaty to William Hutton & Sons in 1911 was John L. Spalding, home was 400 Sandygate Road, Sandygate.

Herbert Hutton lived at 84 Grange Crescent, Sharrow in 1919. (White's Directory)

The Secretaty to William Hutton & Sons in 1919 was Frederick William Senior whose home was 530 Ecclesall Road.

Secretaty to William Hutton & Sons in 1925 was still Frederick William Senior though his home was now at 139 Rustlings Road. (Kelly's Directory)

The Managing Director was Sydney O Gibbs.
