mick851
Ive come across an old spade, the type with the big wooden D handle, cleaned all the rust of it and it says, No2, trade mark the ace of spades, ????? & WILLIAM, it says LUCAS in what appears to be some sort of scroll in the middle, then SHEFFIELD under that , then M.A.F does anybody know who the missing name is, and where abouts it was made? Thanks Mick

Guest Simellucas
Yes I can confirm it's Edward and William Lucas who made the spade at their works in Dronfield. The Ace of Spades was their best quality spade. My 4 X great grandfather Edward Lucas started this works in about 1811 and it closed about 1970. I have a collection of about 20 of their tools and some catalogues. If you ever want to sell this spade I would be interested in buying it. Regards Robin. RichardB
Remarkable that it is possible to spend a small fortune on such stuff from the comfort of your own home. Wonder if it will sell.
