Fiddlestick
Only just spotted this post. Don't remember Beryl, but there was another coloured conductress in the early to mid 60's called Harriet. She was about 50, very thin, wore Bet Lynch type ear-rings, wore glasses and swore like a trooper, By the way, the term 'Clippie' was never used on STD, just 'conductress' ( and if anyone tells you that female positions eg conductress, manageress etc are no longer appropriate, then ask them about the Queen's daughter, 'Prince' (?) Anne ! )
Jim Moriarty
I remember a Jamaican conductress called Beryl, I only worked with her for suet, if it is the same person she was a very nice lady. I remember Harriet well, both from Eastbank and again on nights at Leadmill Road. If there was trouble on the bus Harriet did not need help, she was lethal with an Ultimate. Waterside Echo
I remember a Jamaican conductress called Beryl, I only worked with her for suet, if it is the same person she was a very nice lady. The nicest conductress I ever worked with was a lady called Norma, and that was in 1967. It turned out she was Peter Stringfellows ex wife. boginspro
Eh, Jim? You received animal fats in lieu of money? Are you sure she wasn't called Atora? Very good that. Sorry but the word overtime was never used, it was always called suet, I will call it overtime in future.
