Although, as you have now shared this little treasure with a wider, and for the most part, appreciative audience, I bet Sheffield University and Sheffield City Council have already got it in mind to replace it with another cube.

After all, you cannot have too many cubes in Sheffield, can you?

Incidentally, did you notice any manufacturer's castings on the range, as it could be of local origin, i.e., Sheffield, or Rotherham, etc.?

There was very little light in the room apart from the open door, inside was illuminated by the flash from my camera, I don't see a makers badge.

Thanks Steve, I won't be asking you to go back and look then.

That said, it is something worth watching out for if you do see any other like ranges, as a lot were cast in Rotherham, which did have something of a reputation for such pieces, but there were iron works in Sheffield, and Birmingham, as well as a few other places that cast these.

Although, I would have thought that what was made locally, was generally sold locally, as they are hefty items.

and before Wards took the premises, they were occupied by the Sheffield Scissors, Razor and Tool Company til 1921. In 1918 they were acquired by Sheffield Steel Products (the Templeborough connection).
