Sheffield Bands St John's Etc

I've just been watching the London's Lord Mayor's Parade on TV.

It brought back all memories of Whitsuntide in Sheffield how it use to be.

The bands in the parks and all in our new clothes [ once a year rig out ]

The excitement of hearing the bands while running up Mushroom Lane

to get to Western Park before the bands did. St John's band sticks in my mind

because I knew a lot of players in that band. It was real excitement for everyone

involved and even for the mums and dads taking there kids to the park that day.

Does anything like this still happen even if it's only on a small scale?
